THOMPSON WIGDOR & GILLY LLP

Criminal Defense and Trials. We handle all types of criminal cases and have extensive criminal jury trial experience. With former federal and state prosecutors among its ranks, Thompson Wigdor & Gilly LLP attorneys have handled an array of criminal cases from the Abner Louima federal civil rights trial to high-level and complex financial crimes.

Our firm represents individuals, business executives and corporations at every stage of the criminal process in federal and state court, including during grand jury proceedings, plea negotiations, sentencing, trials and appeals. As former federal and state prosecutors, our attorneys have presented hundreds of cases to the grand jury and are thus intimately familiar with the process and how to avoid indictment. We also have substantial experience conducting internal or government investigations and can provide legal assistance with respect to corporate compliance and drafting and formulating codes of conduct and company policies.

At trial, we have successfully obtained acquittals on behalf of clients who were facing significant amounts of time in prison if convicted. For example, the firm obtained a complete acquittal at trial of a store manager who was falsely accused of multiple sexual assaults, including rape, and other serious offenses. That client was charged in a 25-count indictment and faced 135 years in prison before Thompson Wigdor & Gilly LLP obtained a complete acquittal on his behalf. (See Press and Other Notables.) We also obtained an acquittal at a federal criminal trial of a client who was falsely accused of importing heroin into the country through John F. Kennedy International Airport. (See Press and Other Notables.)

If retained to represent you in a criminal matter, we will use our substantial experience and knowledge of the criminal justice system and formidable trial skills to fight on your behalf and aggressively defend you against any criminal charges filed, or during any investigation conducted, by the United States Attorney's Office, District Attorney's Office or any other government agency.

Civil Rights Litigation. Thompson Wigdor & Gilly LLP also handles civil rights cases, including representing individuals who have been discriminated against with regard to public accommodations or have been the victim of police brutality. We represented a group of individuals who brought claims of racial profiling against Macy's East Departments Stores. Thompson Wigdor & Gilly LLP also was instrumental in convincing the United States Department of Justice to reopen the horrific 1955 murder case of Emmett Till, still widely regarded as the catalyst for our nation's civil rights movement. Our reputation, advocacy skills and dedication to our clients prove invaluable at a time when your civil rights have been violated.
